THE DATE IS EARLY AUGUST OF THE YEAR 2017 AND SERGE HAS NOT BEEN AT THIS BLOG FOR A LONG TIME NOW.  JUST CRANKING UP AGAIN AND WORKING OUT THE KINKS HERE AT THE BLOG SPOT LOCATION WHERE SERGE WILL BE ABLE TO POST MANY OF HIS IMAGES THAT HAVE NOT BEEN SHOWN ON FACE BOOK AND SOME OF THE OTHER SOCIAL MEDIA LOCATIONS DUE TO THE FACT THAT THEY ARE NOT IN COMPLIANCE OF THEIR COMMUNITY VALUES, SO MOSTLY IT HAS BEEN NIPPLES THAT SET EVERYONE ON FIRE THIS LAST YEAR.  WE ALL HAVE THEM, BUT WE CAN'T SHOW THEM OR JUST ACCEPT THAT THEY ARE THERE SO WE GAVE UP SHOWING MUCH OF THE ART WORK THERE AND WILL GIVE THIS A TRY.

AS MANY OF YOU KNOW SERGE, AND ARE FAMILIAR WITH HIS WORK, I WON'T, RIGHT NOW, GIVE YOU THE HISTORY OF HIS LONG AND ONGOING CAREER IN PHOTOGRAPHY.  HE COMES FROM AN INTERESTING BACKGROUND AND MUCH EXPOSURE TO A WORLD THAT MANY OF US MAY NOT BE FAMILIAR WITH EVER.  SERGE AND HIS BROTHER ARE THE SONS OF MAURICE SEYMOUR, OF CHICAGO AND NEW YORK AND IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHO THEY WERE, WELL THEN YOU ARE MOST LIKELY JUST NOT OLD ENOUGH.  IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN MAURICE SEYMOUR, YOU CAN GOOGLE THE NAME AND FIND OUT ALL ABOUT THIS FAMILY OF ARTISTS.  MY POINT BEING, SERGE GREW UP IN A PHOTOGRAPHY STUDIO THAT WAS CONSTANTLY FULL OF FAMOUS AND BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE.  HE ALSO WAS EXPECTED TO DO SOME WORK AROUND THERE SINCE OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS, INCLUDING HIS MOM SONIA ALL TOOK PART IN THE BUSINESS.  HE BEGAN IN THE DARKROOM AT SEVEN YEARS OLD, UNLOADING FILM FOR HIS FATHER.  I AM NOT SO SURE HE COULD HAVE EVER ESCAPED PICKING UP A CAMERA HIMSELF.  IT WAS JUST A PART OF HIM BEFORE HE HAD MUCH TIME TO THINK ABOUT IT.  HE HAS TRIED TO GIVE IT UP SO MANY TIMES, OR AT LEAST JUST LAY DOWN THE CAMERA BUT HE HAS NEVER BEEN ABLE TO STOP CREATING HIS IMAGES, EVEN WHEN HE HAS NO CAMERA HE CONTINUES TO SEE HIS PICTURES.

HAVING A GREAT LOVE FOR THE SEA AND BEING ONE WHO REQUIRES ADVENTURE, HE WAS OFTEN WITHOUT A DARK ROOM FOR LONG LENGTHS OF TIME WHICH IS DIFFICULT.  YOU WANT BADLY TO SEE THE RESULTS OF WHAT YOU HAVE SHOT, AND NOW.  OF COURSE, SO MUCH HAS CHANGED SINCE THE DAYS OF DARKROOMS AND FOR THAT REASON A LOT OF MAGIC IS NOW GONE.  I AM TALKING ABOUT THE MAGIC THAT HAPPENS IN THE DARK WITH ONE WHO IS CREATIVE AND HAS A VISION IN HIS HEAD AND IS DOING EVERYTHING HE CAN TO MAKE THAT IMAGE APPEAR, AS HE SEES IT IN HIS HEAD.  NONE OF THE NEW TOOLS AND PROGRAMS NOR APPS CAN DO WHAT THE HUMAN MIND CAN DO WHEN IT CUTS LOOSE.  NOT SAYING THEY AREN'T GREAT, AND ESPECIALLY FOR THOSE WHO DON'T KNOW THE DIFFERENCE ANYWAY.  THEY ARE FUN AND FAST AND YOU HAD LITTLE TO DO WITH MAKING IT HAPPEN.  THERE ARE WONDERFUL TOOLS NOW THAT DO REQUIRE MORE OF A BRAIN, AND SOME INTENSE WORK TO GRASP THE ABILITY TO USE THESE TOOLS.  WHEN THESE TOOLS ARE IN THE HANDS OF THE RIGHT PERSON, MAGIC CAN HAPPEN, A DIFFERENT MAGIC.

SERGE MADE THE SWITCH TO DIGITAL IN 2004.  HE MISSED THE DARK ROOM AND HE MISSED FILM AND THE FINE PAPERS HE PRINTED ON AND I THINK HE MISSED BEING IN THE DARK FOR HOURS AND HOURS.  SO MUCH OF HIS LIFE IN A DARK ROOM.  AND NOW HE HAS A LITTLE STUDIO THAT LOOKS LIKE A DARKROOM WITHOUT ALL THE BIG YELLOW JUGS OF CHEMICALS AND DEVELOPING TRAYS AND HUGE ENLARGER AND SAFE LIGHTS.  THIS IS MAGIC IN ITSELF.
